Why do drum sample cds always sound so bad?
Not this one - the Real Drums Collection is is one of the best drum libraries available.
While there are some good-sounding drums CDs out there, none of them has the dynamics of a real drum kit. That's why they sound so "wrong".
Those who have some dynamics are only useable for heavy metal, because they are heavily compressed...
We did what we always do - we focused on one thing and did that right. The result is a CD set that's great for all you guys who want to have deep, lush, full and warm drum samples, yet with a defined punch.
The CD set contains a Pearl™ drum set with two snare drums (wood & brass), ride, crash & splash cymbals. The drums have been sampled with up to 110 multisamples (bass drums), snare drums with 100 multisamples, toms, cymbals and hihat with 50 multisamples (Giga® version: all drums in 16 multisamples).
Additionally, the drums were recorded in "Left Hand" and "Right Hand" versions, so you can perfectly program realistic rolls. But if you don't want to - the CDs also include snare rolls... The bass drum was recorded with both the left and right pedals.
Besides normal drum sticks, the drums were also recorded with brushes and hot rods.
The "Real Drums Collection" sounds still have all the warmth they had in the first place - when hearing the drums in the recording room. Not compressed to death, just some great mics with great mic pres and only minor adjustment to get it right on the harddisk. Recorded in stereo in 24 bit and 96 khz, the sounds were downsampled to 44.1 Khz for normal use (Giga® version: 16 bits). All the mics of the drum kit were left open to add the acoustics of the recording room as well as the "mic bleed" of a normal drums studio recording situation. This way a very natural drum sound was achieved.
No mastering was applied, so your new drum tracks won't sound over-processed when your songs get to the mastering.
To start immediately, the CDs include presets for Steinberg™'s Halion® sampler as well as Emagic™'s EXS24® or in the Giga® format. "Light" versions of the presets are included, too.
